The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR) 2006 imposes a "Duty to Manage Asbestos’. If you are responsible for any maintenance or repair, it is your legal duty to put into practice reasonable steps to:
- Ascertain if there are any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACMs) on the premises.
- Determine the type and condition of any such materials.
- Presume materials contain Asbestos unless there is strong evidence to suggest otherwise.
- Assess the risk of disturbance / exposure of any ACMs or presumed ACMs.
- Prepare and implement a written plan on how the risks are to be managed.
- Monitor, review, and update the plan periodically.
All our surveys are carried out in accordance with HSG264 Asbestos: The Survey Guide which was issued by the HSE in January 2010.
Here is an overview of the range of surveys we provide to identify any asbestos containing materials present in a building. Our team of surveyors can advise on the most appropriate form of survey and guide you through the available options.
Management Survey
This is the most common type of survey. In a Management survey all reasonably accessible areas are checked for asbestos containing materials and representative samples are taken. The survey report is designed to assist you in meeting your obligations under Regulation 4 of the ‘Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006’. All samples are analysed in our in house UKAS accredited laboratory.
Pre-Demolition/Refurbishment Survey
This survey is fully intrusive and all areas such as sealed voids and cavities are inspected. This type of survey is required prior to any refurbishment or demolition.
The Report
On completion of any survey the client is provided with the following:
- A comprehensive, detailed report highlighting the presence of any asbestos containing materials that were discovered (or presumed to exist) during the course of the survey.
- An asbestos register that can be used to identify the areas, monitor the condition and up-date the action plan on any asbestos containing materials that were found or presumed to exist.
- Individual assessments and recommendations for each asbestos containing material identified.
- Marked up floor plans and photographs showing asbestos containing materials and sampling points.
- Impartial advice on the action & treatment of the asbestos containing materials that are found.
- Advice on periodic inspections and how to keep the register up-to-date.
